God’s Artwork (Wk 3)

So this week I tried to tackle the self worth message. As I indicted in another post, I know that one of the core struggles at this age is “Is it OK to be me.” So I thought I would introduce the idea of “God’s Artwork.” After a small prayer I set both of them down in a big chair and I told them that they were God’s artwork. My oldest’s face lit up, I could tell that he liked the idea and was wondering how that could work out. I wrote on some paper the following and taped it to the wall:

There is no better MAX than MAX

There is no better MADDOX than MADDOX

You are GOD’s art

Celebrate your Uniqueness and Ours

They can’t read but I read it to them and I think it was helpful to see it up there and my wife said that my oldest referred to it on the wall a few times during the week.

I then got out two big pieces of cardboard with the outline of a person on them. I brought out a bunch of magazines and told them to cut out things that represented them and we could paste them to the cardboard. They were excited for about two seconds, I’d say it was a flop. I think I could do better with it when they get older.

It was tough to keep their attention, I wasn’t into the collage either and it ended quickly but my oldest was engaged when I told him that he was God’s art. He even asked questions one night about why God drew us on paper and how did he pull us out and give us hair!
