I decided to continue to make stories for the boys since it seemed to be pretty effective. They have been responding well to them even if my illustrations are pretty subpar!
I decided to do a different take on Genesis. I began the story traditionally with just God existing and then deciding to create everything. I continue to point to the idea that God is an artist because I really think that speaks to my oldest son. But then I introduced a page that stated that God didn’t think his creation was complete.
We then turned the page and it stated “Everything wasn’t everything till He created you.” I saw my older son’s face completely light up when I showed that page and I knew it had accomplished what I intended it to. The story went on to state how God said that you were good and perfect then the story instructed them to close their eyes and imagine God’s delight with them. This was a stretch but I think my older son got a little glimpse of that.
